Is Crypto Lottery Legit?
Crypto lotteries can be legitimate if designed in a clear way. The key idea is: you should be able to check the result using public data.
Signs of a legit crypto lottery
- It clearly states the blockchain used (e.g., Bitcoin)
- It clearly states the winning rule (e.g., last 6 digits of the hash)
- You can find the same block/hash on a public explorer
- Payout rules are clear and consistent
Lets use a single example
To test legitimacy, you can compare the lottery’s “winning number” with what you see on a public Bitcoin explorer.
- Go to blockchain.com → Explorer → Bitcoin, then open a block by number (for example block #930,621).
- Open this block page: https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/blocks/btc/930621
- On that page, find the Hash ID.
- Look at the last 6 digits of the Hash ID.
- Now go to your lottery site and check the winning number for the draw tied to block #930,621.
- See if they match.
In this case (block 930,621), the winning numbers should be: 153,612
Important: this works only if the lottery clearly states the exact rule (for example “last 6 digits of the Bitcoin block hash”). Always follow the rule stated on the site.
Risks to be aware of
- No public verification method
- Unclear rules or changing rules
- Hidden fees or confusing payout logic
Why “provably fair” matters (simple words)
“Provably fair” means you don’t have to believe the result — you can check it. If the public data is correct, the result is correct.
